There are a number of imaging facilities in the Phoenix Metro area and all of them have similar pricing. The most expensive places to send patients for imaging are centers associated with hospitals/emergency departments/etc. Unless it is an actual emergency do not send your patients to the ED to get imaging for convenience.
All imaging facilities have a cash pay rate that is significantly lower than the billed insurance rate. If you write on the order that the patient is uninsured and to give the cash rate they will drop the price.
x-rays
x-rays cost about $25-$40 per body part depending on the number of views.
Mammography
Beyond x-rays it gets much more expensive. If you need a mammogram one can be obtained free if the patient is seen at one of the clinics that offers the Well Woman Health Check, see breast cancer. Otherwise there is a Mobile On-site Mammography that provides mammograms at varying locations. Ultrasounds
Ultrasounds tend to range around $100 as a cash pay rate. The Ultrasound Institute is located at 4250 E. Camelback Rd, Buidling K, Suite 170 Phoenix, Az 85018. They offer most ultrasounds for around $70, although vascular studies tend to be more. Their phone number is 602-354-4333 and they are open Monday to Saturday. A list of their services and prices is available at http://www.uimg.org/?page_id=2554. St. Vincent de Paul also offers clinics for general U/S exams as well as echocardiograms for free.
CT/MRI
CT/MRI are between $200-$500+ as a cash rate depending on the study and whether contrast is needed. For these we will typically ask for a hardship waiver from the imaging company. In order to process the hardship waiver the patient will have to provide certain financial documents and once approved will either be able to get the study for free or at a discount on top of the cash rate.
Most if not all imaging places will price match. If you know of another clinic/group that gets a special rate you can write in the order to ‘price match ‘X’ clinic $Y’ and they will usually honor the request.
